These are my original photography. I’ve tried to recreate band shots/photography of what Mumford & Sons have already done.  I’ve tried to make my photography to have more of a ‘less serious’ band posing pictures and have more of a ‘fun happy’ group which are enjoying what they are doing. With my front cover shot I’ve tried to incorporate gaze theory.

Double page spread draft

This is my first double page spread draft. This draft contains a large band image/photograph in the top left corner which spreads onto the second page only a little.  It also has two smaller images on the second page. I've added in the bottom right hand corner of the second page at the end of the article a question and answer section which fans of the band (Mumford and Sons) and of the magazine could send their questions they want to ask the band via face book prior to the band being interviewed.

Logo Designs and drafts

This is my first draft and ideas for my logo  and magazine name .  Where I have chosen  indie music  as my focus for the task of music magazine I've tried to link the whole image of indie and indie music into the design and title/logo of my magazine.

This  is my second draft in which I've narrowed  down my favourite choices  and done them in more detail.

Ideas of information for main piece

These are a few ideas of which I could include in my magazine either on the front cover or contents page.

Mumford and sons and Ben Howard are the two artists which I am considering to focus on for my double page spread.
These are a few ideas of which I could use as information in  my double page spread.

This is my research of possible band photo's/images in which I could recreate for my main front cover image or for my double page spread photo.

Front Cover Draft

My first front cover draft was based around a style/layout of Q Magazines.

The information on my draft is of the information I will possibly select to put on my final piece.

My second front cover draft with Ben Howard and the Brits as my focus point.

Research

Q magazine research

I chose Q magazine to research as it is one of the top music magazine in the UK.

My Music Magazine

My music magazine is going to be baste round indie music and up and coming indie music festival.
The target audience which I was producing my magazine for, those who follow Indie and alternative music and fashions. The way I plan to achieve this is by incorporating some of the biggest and most currant Indie and alternative bands as well as trying to link the fashion and trends fans’ of these bands into in my magazine such as having my logo and other aspects of my magazine star/universe images.
With my magazine being a UK/British released magazine.  With this in mind I’ve chosen to create a Brit Awards special showing off the best of British with my front cover being Mumford & Sons.  The reason I chose Mumford & Sons for my front cover and to talk about in my double page spread is because they have had a very big year in the Indie/alternative music scene with a massive tour in America. It’s very hard for a British Band to make it big in America due to the diverse musical cultures within America however Mumford & Sons are one of the few which have achieved this.  This is why I felt it was important to have in my magazine as they are a band which fit into the style of magazine I would like to produce.

Main Task

Brief: my tack is to create music magazine of a genre of my own choice. I must create a front page, contents page, page spread.

Final submission & Evaluation

Evaluation
My evaluation of my prelim task is that I'm happy with my final edition of front cover and contents page for my task to create a school magazine. I believe the areas of the whole task in which I need to improve on is my timing to get the research and drafting done quicker and to time. I also believe that with research and drafting I should go into more depth and detail when doing so. However I'm happy with my whole project and how it went.

This is one of my drafts.  I have chosen to have a main photo to engage my target audience. I would have some cover lines down one side to help make them all stand out more so the readers can get more information about what is inside.

My second draft is quite similar to my first however I’ve moved the school logo to above the title on the right hand side of the page and made my main photo smaller so I could fit a column down the left hand side advertising what’s in this magazine.  I’ve also got a banner running across the bottom of the page.

My first contents page draft is made up of three columns.  The first column has the large page numbers telling you that the article is on which page number. The second article contains the short information to help you decide what articles interest you and the final column has the corresponding photo.

My second contents draft, which is my preferred page draft out of the two. This draft has the main article within the magazine advertised on the contents page with half the page devoted to it by having the largest image.  The rest of the articles have a brief description next to the page number with an image underneath to lure the reader’s interest.

Target Audience

The target audience I have chosen for my school magazine is the upper school and the sixth form; so year ten to year thirteen. The magazine will address what’s happening within these year groups for example school trips eg. Year ten geography and sixth form New York trip. Also new plans to improve sixth form life within school which will then encourage the year tens and elevens to stay on at Trinity.
